Wishing you...
Happy 15th Anniversary, David
Things to ponder on this Eve of a New Year:
1. What moments were your favorite of 2010? What made your heart soar? Reflect on the good moments in the past year. What are the moments that made you smile and laugh out loud until your belly hurt?
2. What have you learned over the past 12 months?
3. What are you looking forward to learning in 2011?
4. I hate resolutions. I swear that we make them in order to break them. Instead of resolutions, set goals. What little things do you want to accomplish in the new year? What one big thing do you want to do this year?
5. Make the time to do what you want to do. Turn off the computer or tv. Let the dishes sit just a little bit longer. Ignore the whispering dust bunnies. Can you find fifteen minutes a day to do the one thing that makes you happiest (think art journaling or whatever calls to you)? Think about it.
Stay safe this New Years Eve. As my junior high teacher always said to us, "Stay safe. Stay sober. Stay outta trouble." Whatever you do, wherever you are, I hope it's a good one.

La Petite Muse
It's been a crazy week! This is usually the time when we have a little bit of vacation time to sit and relax, but not this week. I'm working on compiling a list of my favorite books BOUGHT in 2010. I hope to have it posted sometime next week. It probably won't be just 10 books, but it won't be a ton either!
Been prepping like a mad woman for my class tomorrow at Stampin From The Heart. I'm really looking forward to it. I know almost everyone who is going and it's a great group! I'm excited!
My living room is still a mess (because of the ongoing apartment building work) so as soon as life is back to normal, I'm hoping to shoot a video or upload some pictures of my little corner of the living room a.k.a. my art area. I'll show you how I organize my stuff. I tend to rotate my "toys" like a parent does for a child. I have my NOW stuff and my LATER stuff. Every now and then, I go through my stuff and pull out stuff that I want to work with NOW and put away other stuff for LATER (or for classes). Right now my NOW pile is packed in an Eagle Creek Pack-it Shoe Cube and is sorted by: focal images, backgrounds and transparencies in that order. I also have a small ziploc bag of stickers and rub ons thrown in there. I don't organize or categorize like other artists. I find it more interesting to dig through stuff and find things spur of the moment. Also, depending on where I'm going, I have a very small case (it used to hold my tiny laptop speakers before I put it to better use) that holds about a dozen rolls of masking tape. I have my favorite pens in a little carry all case that changes depending on my mood. I buy most of my pen cases from jetpens.com. Oh no, see what you made me do?! I just went to jetpens.com to simply link and I found NEW pens. I think I need them.
Where was I? Oh yeah, storage. So, I tend to pack average. I'll try to snap a photo or two over the next few days that shows what I bring for on the go art journaling. It really does change every couple of months or with my mood.

Finally! Someone else who knows and appreciates a damn GREAT film when they see it! The Shop Around The Corner is one of my most favorite films EVER, not just because it's a Lubitsch film starring Jimmy *swoon* Stewart but because my former penpal, turned husband turned me on to it (and sent it as a gift to me) in 1995. I'll always recommend a Lubitsch film but this one is near and dear to my heart. The casting is amazing and the dialogue makes you laugh and tugs at your heart strings. It's definitely my favorite Christmas film!

Content: The Artist’s Life
Create a uniquely stitched tape covered, content filled journal using my favorite cardstock, paper ephemera, a plethora of deco tape, needle and thread. I quickly fell in love with this journal and carried it with me everywhere last summer as it is small enough for every day, on the go use. I loved how I could slip it in a Ziploc bag with a glue stick, some collage ephemera and a handful of pens. I worked on it every day, everywhere. You will learn how to blend and layer colorful ephemera and that leaving a little white space is good! This journal is definitely one of my most favorite books that I have ever worked in. I loved learning how to work with the open spaces on the pages, using pens, stencils, stickers and more. I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned with you! I guarantee you will love this journal as much as I did!
Supply list: Scissors, small selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of waxed paper, roll of paper towels, permanent black inkpad, container to hold water, 1" brush to glue (I like chip or bristle brushes), a few of your favorite glue sticks
Followed by:
3-7 p.m.
Pen Work
This isn’t my pen class, more of a part two, a further way to explore layering with pens on the page. In this class, we will take our pen work to the next level. We will dive right in experimenting with writing ideas and techniques on quickly collaged pages. This class will not only teach you ways to use your pens, but also you will be working hands on with collage, as well. This is not a calligraphy class. Think more along the lines of guided hands on experimentation. You will learn to love your handwriting and to take it to a whole ‘nother level! (Note: My “Everything You Wanted to Know About Pens and More” class is not a prerequisite.)
Please bring your journal to class if you have one, or the instructor will be supplying paper for you to work on.
Supply list: journal (see above) Scissors, small selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of waxed paper, roll of paper towels, permanent black inkpad, container to hold water, 3 1" brushes to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) OR a few of your favorite glue sticks

Saturday, February 26th
A Beautiful Life Journal
What do you get when you combine paper, ribbon, glue and a little special somethin’ something? A soft covered (but extremely durable), quickly stitched and totally made by your own hands journal! You will learn not only how to create your own Beautiful Life Journal but you will discover how to successfully blend color, texture and imagery together onto the pages of your book. You’ll create luscious layers that combine rich, personal imagery with colorful, textured bits of paper ephemera. I’ll dig deep into my bag of tricks for this class, unearthing and sharing what I know to be the key to creating unique, personal journal pages that you will love!
Supply list: Scissors, small selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of waxed paper, roll of paper towels, permanent black inkpad, container to hold water, 1" brushes to glue (I like chip or bristle brushes), a few of your favorite glue sticks, bottle of tacky glue
Followed by:
3-7 p.m.
Bits and Pieces
I love using bits and pieces of collage ephemera. I save all of my scraps from the tiniest bit of a transparency to the ends of masking tape to use on my layered pages. In this class, you will be combining not only paper ephemera but tape, stickers, rubber stamps, transparencies and more. Learn how the smallest snippet of ephemera can bring an entire page together in a richly, layered manner.
Please bring your journal to class if you have one, or the instructor will be supplying paper for you to work on.

Expressions
What story will your book hold? Express yourself by creating a hand bound journal covered in luscious handmade paper. Create pages that fold out and hide your secrets or uniquely display your treasures. You will learn how to free your artistic self upon the pages of this book, creating a multitude of rich, colorful pages as you work. You will be learning not only how to make the book from scratch but also how to create a multitude of layered, “paper painted” pages.

It's weird how I'm not teaching on a weekend until January 9th. (I still have my much loved two day class at Stampin From The Heart Dec 29th and 30th-a Wed and Thurs). Southern California has lost so many small Mom and Pop stores in the past few years. I'm now down to two local stores: Stampin From The Heart and Zinnia. I'm very grateful for the interest in my online classes. Thank you for enabling me to continue my passion: teaching! In the meantime, I am looking for more venues to teach workshops at. They're not limited to stores either! If you know of any such places (I am not interested in venues that charge me to teach), any information would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, it's very nice to have the weekends off to spend more time with my son. We've been visiting more local farmer's markets and spending quiet time around the neighborhood.
In the meantime, with everything going on with our apartment building, please wish us luck in the coming weeks. We're going to need it... (I've been posting daily updates via facebook about what's going on).

GREAT NEWS! ALI HAS BEEN FOUND! YAY!!! :)
Trekking today to Stampin' From The Heart. I'm teaching my collage class from 11:30-3:30. I'll have extra handouts and stuff on hand for any last minute sign ups. I can't wait!! I LOVE this class (and you will, too)! This is the last time I have it on the schedule for So CA in 2010/early 2011. I have tons of new classes that I am planning on debuting next year.
Day two of the HVAC (heating/air conditioning) installation. They won't be done until next week (I HOPE) and even then, there will be stuff piled up for days. They still have to put a fan in the bedroom, paint the walls that they worked on, and then remove the old heater. They also will be coming back to install new windows in the entire building. That translates to MORE moving stuff and piles everywhere. It's the worst time of year to be doing this. I can't wait to put up my Christmas tree and RELAX. David and Tristan hung out in the bedroom yesterday (as no one was in there) and I was on the futon in the dining room area. It's hard to have so many people in such a small apartment at one time.
Things to note-
-They did not cover our apartment "E.T." style like they said they would. I asked several times about it and they said it was fine working in their little "bubble". Well, they totally opened up the wall and who knows what is in there. There is white dust and pieces of wall EVERYWHERE. I am beyond pissed. I was sitting right next to where they were working (on our futon) for EIGHT hours-the entire time they were working and cutting into the wall. We are finding white wall residue everywhere. They are not coming in here today to do any work unless they cover EVERYTHING.
-A worker turned the heat on FULL blast. Luckily, I realized it before anyone left. Ugh ugh!!! We've never even turned the heat on in the 15 years we've been in this apartment. It was at full blast. I couldn't figure out what that burning smell was until I walked by the heater. P.U.! They thought we had turned it on. I asked, "What part of we have NEVER turned our heat on do you not understand?!?"
Yup. That's my sister and I in the bottom right corner of the page. I'm a kitty cat made from a trash bag. Don't ask me what my sister is supposed to be. She doesn't remember either and she's dressed in her pjs. Just remember, I'm the one dressed in a trash bag. I had to wear a trash bag on more than one occasion. I also had to dress up as one of those damn California raisins. I still shudder at the memory.

An Artist's Journal: 365

I'm super excited to announce the news! I have taken one of my most popular classes, An Artist's Journal and totally revised and added to it. It's a workshop that I taught many times all over the U.S. I brought it back and revised it each time I taught it. Well, this is the largest revision that I have ever done! The handout used to be 19 pages, 237 exercises. Not anymore! I've reworked it completely! It's a NEW class! Presenting...
An Artist's Journal: 365
an Art E-Book (Arty book) Course
-365 Prompts
50 pages
What's in those 50 pages?
-Creativity, art, journal, painting, collage prompts and MORE! There are 365 techniques and ideas. One for each day of the year! I have to confess, the ideas in the handout got ME excited. I lost sleep as I was eager to start working in my art journal!!
There are also ideas on getting started, ideas on getting unblocked, tons of book recommendations (two pages of my favorite inspirational/creativity books), and MORE. I have made this a handout that should appeal to any artist: beginner to advanced! I've been making art all of my life and I'm super excited by the ideas in it!
Are there directions on how to make a journal?
Yes! As a little bonus, I've included the original two page journal making handout that came with the original class.
Are there any photos?
No. In an effort to keep the class price affordable, there are no photos in the handout BUT the handout is jam PACKED with 50 pages of information! A whole year's worth (365 days) of prompts!
Can I use the exercises in other forms of art beyond journal keeping?
YES! I always like to have my classes be multi-functional! You can take the ideas and use them to spark any art project!
Will you ever teach this class again in person?
No. I have officially retired the class and will offer it here in e-book form only. This will be your only chance to acquire the fully revised, new handout.
Is there a place where we can see what others do with the class ideas?
YES! I've also created an unbelievably super easy way to share photos. No flickr site. No facebook site. I'll send you more information on that when you sign up. This photo site will remain up and accessible to all students whenever they sign up! It is unbelievably super easy. No password needed. You will love it!
What will you receive when you sign up?
Within 24 hours, you will receive a pdf file that contains the 50 page class handout, An Artist's Journal: 365. You will also receive an email from me that contains information on how to view and share (optional) photos to the group's photo site.
When can I sign up?
Any time. This a work at your own pace class.
How much does it cost?
I'm offering the class now at a discounted price of $20 which you can pay via paypal (or if you prefer to send me a money order, you can email me for more information).
Please note there are no refunds once you receive the course materials.
Please also respect the amount of time, effort and work it took me to create this material. You can download, save and print out (or read it on your ipad, kindle, etc...) for personal use. I'm a one woman (very small) business and I work very hard at what I do. I strive to offer the best material possible. I'm always excited about what I teach and I hope that you get the most out of my classes. This helps to support my work and makes me able to offer more classes and come up new ideas!
If you teach children, feel free to work on the exercises with them! I don't mind people who teach kids using these ideas in classes! Get 'em started and hooked on art young is my motto!
Can I give the class as a gift?
Sure! If you email me or include a note with your payment, I will email the file to whomever you'd like.
How do I sign up?
Click the paypal button below or email me at EGorey99@sbcglobal.net more more info!
