What You'll Find Here

I post daily (photos of my journal pages, things that inspire me and personal bits and pieces) to inspire and encourage others. I have always believed that if I can do it, so can you.

You'll find resources (my favorite supplies, books, slideshows of my art journal pages, favorite bloggers, etc...) listed along the right hand side of my blog.

I've been teaching both in person and online workshops for more than twenty years. You can find out more about my classes by scrolling down along the right hand side of my blog. I strive to make classes accessible to everyone (both beginner to advanced).

I love teaching and truly believe that deep down inside everyone is an artist, capable of creating something. There is power and knowledge in the act of creating something with your own hands, made from your own heart and head.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Thanks for stopping by!

Bringing home the goods: Tate and National Gallery

Waving hi from London. At the train station headed to Paris (a transfer for now.) On our way to Auvers sur Oise for two days!

Thanks to money and (lack of) space, I restrained myself at both museum bookstores. I'll be sharing photos soon. Some are on my Instagram, etc...

Next stop, France!

Books for the Road

I've been trying to finish Van Gogh: The Life for a while now. Alas, I've been so busy making last minute preparations that I've only been able to dip into it. It is available now on Audible so I got that as well as an inexpensive paperback that I'll leave behind when I'm done with it.

I had to bring the letters, of course.

I also have two guides to Van Gogh travels (the Atlas) as well as a wonderful book on where to find Impressionist related areas in and around Paris.

I won't be bored on the plane. I also have my itty bitty booklight packed.

I never leave home without my planner (this was a gift from my friend, Roseann. It's made by Teesha Moore fits Traveler's Notebook inserts.)

My journal and a small kit of supplies is also packed.

I'm ready!

2019 Workshops

Here is my current list of workshops for 2019. Please check back as I will update this list often.

I'm ALWAYS looking for new teaching venues so if you know of any that may be interested, I'd love to hear. I have taught a wide range of ages from individuals to small groups to large gatherings. I have held classes at stores, museums, backyards, garages, studios, public and private schools as well as private homes. I also am available for teaching home schooling art classes.

My workshops are always process-based learning while creating a unique product. I am well known for not traveling light and bring a large variety of supplies including (but not limited to) collage material, rubber stamps, stencils, pens, markers, tape and more.

I don't travel light (see photos here.)

Please note the small supply list for each class.

If you're not near where I'll be teaching, but you're interested in taking a class, I do offer a variety of online classes (28 different online workshops as of December 2017.) You can find out more info on the right side of my main blog.

Information on my latest online workshop, An Artist's Study can be found here.
Thank YOU for your interest!

*Please note that I can also send gift certificates for workshops via email. Why not give the gift of creativity?

Saturday, July 13th
Session One
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bring your journal to class and prepare to dive in and explore layering in paper, paint and pen. Discover new ideas for collage and color. Unfold and unfurl on your pages as you discover new possibilities of creative expression.

Objectives in this workshop: new exercises in collage, mixed media techniques focusing on composition, color and layering.
“The object isn't to make art, it's to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable.”

Robert Henri, author of The Art Spirit, is one of my favorite artists, writers and creative individuals.

Every time I open up a copy of his book I discover a new gem that inspires me to create. I am a firm believer in the fact that inspiration is truly everywhere and that as humans we are driven to make and create.

“In every human being there is the artist, and whatever his activity, he has an equal chance with any to express the result of his growth and his contact with life. I don't believe any real artist cares whether what he does is 'art' or not. Who, after all, knows what art is?”

Immerse yourself in daily sessions of creativity and inspiration. Each session has a different focus. In some, we will start by creating a journal of our own from scratch. After binding the book, we will dive into our work. Fill page after page with luscious layers of paper, paint and pen. Using the key elements and principles of art in fun, fresh ways, you will learn new techniques for collage, mixed media, acrylic painting, journaling, color theory, composition, design and much, much more. Learn new ideas and techniques in creative self expression. Gain confidence in your work, know your tools and your capability to brainstorm and problem solve.

“The artist must be a student.”

As always, my class is geared towards beginner to advanced, there is something for everyone in this workshop. I have been keeping a journal for over 35 years and an art journal for 21 of those years. I am always trying to learn new ways, techniques and approaches to creating. There is always something new to learn and experience.

“The end will be what it will be. The object is intense living, fulfillment; the great happiness in creation.”

As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to email me at EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Supply list: your journal, an apron, scissors, a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers), baby wipes, cork back metal ruler, a full roll of paper towels OR old rags, a container for your paint water, your favorite paint brushes, a water brush pen (OR an extra fine, detail paint brush *ONLY* IF you have one),  a few of your favorite LARGE glue sticks (please trust me when I say that large glue sticks will last you longer.
