Germany June 2019

We left Saint Remy and headed to Neuendettelsau, Germany! We arrived much later than expected thanks to traffic and road construction (2 a.m.) and had difficulties getting into our airbnb (more lock/door issues!) When we finally were settled, we fell fast asleep in our rooftop room. We woke up to the church bells ringing and rain.

Alas, we didn't have much time to spare as Berlin was waiting. We jumped in the car and headed off as we still had several hours of driving time ahead of us. The road signs on the Autobahn kept us easily amused.

I LOVED our airbnb in Blankenfelde-Mahlow. The bedroom was accessible only by a steep ladder and once you were in it, you had to hunch over. It was very claustrophobic but the charm of the cottage made up for all of that.

Berlin was waiting so we jumped in the car and headed off. We had bookstores and adventures awaiting us.

Lavender!

Bücherbogen was our favorite bookstore that we went to in Berlin. We didn't buy anything at any of the shops but this was the best stocked. The architecture and location were also very cool.

Just in case you didn't notice the red light, we've added a stop sign.

Europeans and their parking spaces...

It was after hours when I discovered the Caran d'Ache shop. Like a kid, I had my face pressed up against the window.

Ice cream for dinner (it was very late!)

Claustrophobic?

German post!

Der Backer, three gas stations, one ice cream shop, one parking lot and two airbnb's are where we spent our money in Germany. We didn't find any books that we had to take home though we tried!

I have to admit that Berlin was disappointing. I know it's ONLY because I went in with the idea in my head that it looked and felt a certain way (see Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire.) That Berlin is long gone. We were  also limited on time and funds so we made do with what we could and took in as much of the city as possible.

Amsterdam and Vincent were waiting...
