Just Announced: October 6-8th Workshops in Fremont, CA
I am teaching four new workshops at Maria's studio in the Niles section of Fremont, CA October 6th-8th (classes are open to all.) I am very excited about the new ideas that these workshops will generate over the weekend. This is the last time that I will be teaching at this studio in Niles as Maria is closing this studio. We will, however, be continuing workshops in her home (where we started many moons ago.) Yay! Please come and help say goodbye to a wonderful place that has given so many of us inspiration, many laughs and much happiness over the years. If you are new, please note ALL are welcome.
We will also have door prizes and giveaways. Everyone will leave with something extra!

Payments for the Fremont, CA workshop must be made in advance. Due to the fact that the teacher is traveling from Los Angeles and must prep for the workshops in advance, there are no cancellations allowed. No refunds.
You may send someone else in your place if you are unable to attend the workshop, or you will receive a kit for the class. You can either pay via paypal (see button below) or send a check or money order. Once you've signed up for the workshop, you will be sent the address and directions to the workshop location. Supply List: your journal, an apron, scissors, a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers), cork back metal ruler, a full roll of paper towels OR old rags, any favorite mark making tools (I will have some to share) a container for your paint water, 1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) as well as a few, smaller, detailed brushes, a small container to clean your brushes (an old jar, etc...), a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

In the Studio: Developing an Art Practice
I've been teaching art for more than 20 years and making art all of my life. Some have told me that I live what David Lynch has called, "the Art Life." I'll share with you how I approach art making and how I view art and life. We'll brainstorm where ideas come from and how to keep them flowing.
The goal in this class is to work through a series of creative exercises that will get your creativity flowing. Learn how to start (and finish) pages. Learn how to work through creative block. I truly believe that inspiration is everywhere and I've used this mentality to keep my creativity flowing. There is no secret other than to do the work. But how do you work when you feel stuck? How do you create pages that are unique to you? How do you glean ideas from the world around you and make them your own? Be prepared to get messy, be inspired and explore your own creativity on your pages.

Friday PM Workshop:
Expanding Your Color Palette
Sometimes we find ourselves in a rut with our color palette. Learn how
to push past the same old same old and expand your use of color.
Please note that the ideas we are exploring also translate to other art mediums and fields.
Explore a wide variety of color possibilities! Learn how to go beyond the tube and get the look that you want in your artwork.
We
will be doing collage work as well as exploring a multitude of mixed
media ideas in this workshop. Prepare to get messy and be pushed (and
push back) in this expressive and new workshop.

Saturday's Workshop:
From Memory to Journal Pages
One of the questions that I'm often asked is do I use themes? How do I start a page? What do I create the page about? In this workshop, you will learn how to translate every day moments into unique to you art journal pages.
No
experience required. Bring a short handwritten list of favorite
experiences, moments and memories. You will learn how to reflect these
fragments of life in the form of image, color, shapes, line and text
onto your pages. Create rich and deeply personal pages that are true to
your own voice while learning new techniques and ideas.
Please note that we will begin the class by making a journal from scratch.

Playful Patterns and More
Bring your journal to class and be prepared to get messy and walk out inspired!
In this workshop, you will learn how to brainstorm ideas for creating pattern, texture, line and shape on our pages. Learn how to take stencils, stamps and designs by others and combine them with your own unique marks (made by your own design and with brushes, pens, markers and a variety of different tools and toys.) We will also explore pushing these pre-made tools to the side and making our own one of a kind marks on our pages.
Begin the class by making playful journal pages layered with paper, paint and more. Learn how to free up anything that may be blocking your creativity by making your own marks on your pages. Create pages that are truly your own.
