Just Announced: January 27-29th Workshops in Fremont, CA

I am very excited to announce that I will be teaching four new workshops at Maria's studio in the Niles section of Fremont, CA January 27th-29th (classes are open to the public.) You will note that three of these workshops have been taught in the past. By popular request, I'm bringing them back! I've revised them and will be teaching them in a new way!

An Artist's Study

These fresh, new workshops teach a variety of NEW ideas involving collage, creative processing, self expression, composition, design, layering, painting and much, much more.
  

My workshops are always process-based learning while creating something completely unique to you.

Please note there is a small supply list.

Beginners to advanced are welcome in ALL of the classes.

Payments for the Fremont, CA workshop must be made in advance. Due to the fact that the teacher is traveling from Los Angeles and must prep for the workshops in advance, there are no cancellations allowed. No refunds.

You may send someone else in your place if you are unable to attend the workshop, or you will receive a kit for the class. You can either pay via paypal (see button below) or send a check or money order. Once you've signed up for the workshop, you will be sent the address and directions to the workshop location. If you have ANY questions you can email me. I will also give you my cell phone number so you contact me.

The class fee includes a vast array of mediums and materials to complete the necessary project. It is well known that I do not travel light to any of my classes. I will be bringing such things are: 

• all materials necessary to complete the project (handmade paper, decorative paper, board, glue, etc...)
• bookbinding supplies (thread, awl, needles)
• rubber stamps 
• ink pads 
• decorative tape
• stencils
• pens and markers
• gel medium
• collage ephemera and much, much more.

I do not travel light to my classes at all!

Brushstrokes: Playful, Paint Applications On Journal Pages

Let's get messy! Explore, experiment and play with paint in this colorful and fun workshop. We'll start by collaging our pages and then it's time to pull out the paint! You will learn everything I know about acrylics, mediums as well as a plethora of ways to apply acrylics to our journal pages (or canvas, walls, etc...) Explore color, texture and depth as you create original and luscious pages. 

You will also love making your own unique sampler book of your painted and collaged pages!

Supply list: a journal, an apron, scissors, a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers), bone folder, cork back metal ruler, a full roll of paper towels OR old rags, permanent black ink pad (if you have one), a container for your paint water,  1 to 2" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) as well as a few, smaller, detailed brushes, a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

Followed by

3 to 7 p.m.

Juicy Journal Pages

In this special workshop, work quick and fast, without judgment, the idea being to keep your inner critic silent. You will create a series of pages that are unique to you while learning a variety of new layering techniques involving collage, acrylics, markers, stencils, stamps and more.

After some time spent creating this way, we will step back and think about our pages. Learn to look and process your pages with new eyes. We'll then rework our pages into all new original journal pages.

Transformation: Peeling Back the Layers 

What will be uncovered and revealed in this all day workshop?
You will begin by transforming an old hardcover book (provided) into a uniquely layered journal full of texture and color. 
Jump right in with layers of paper, paint and more. You will start by creating pages that are rich and full of depth. You will then step back and peel away the layers transforming your previous pages into something entirely new and fresh. Learn to rework, revise and transform your pages with layers of color, texture, text and pattern.

Create something that is truly one of a kind using your favorite every day supplies.

Be prepared to get messy and to walk away with a new journal, several finished pages and a desire to keep working.

An Artist's Study

As artists and individuals, we're always learning. We seek guidance from our favorite artists. They inspire and spark ideas in us. How can we borrow from them to create entirely new and unique pieces? 

In this class, you will learn how to glean inspiration from your favorite artists and create fresh, new, vibrant journal pages that combines their work with yours. I took the work of one of my favorite artists both collage and idea wise and melded it with my own work. 

I ask that students please bring a book or color copies of the work of one of their favorite artists (the images do not have to be of people, it can be an abstract artist, a photographer, a sculpture artist, a kid's art, your art as a kid, your old art) whatever kind of art calls to you but you have to be able and willing to cut it up. I will show you how to look at their work with new eyes. You will learn how to look at their work with new eyes and how to incorporate what they have done into your own work, making new, original work in your own distinct style. Not only did I collage with bits of my favorite artist's work but I also borrowed mark making, layouts, thoughts and other ideas. I wanted to make completely new and original pieces that looked like my work as I learned from her. You will learn how to do the same in this all day workshop. 


Supply list: your journal, Bring either several different copies or an inexpensive book (to tear up) of your favorite artist's work, OR even copies of your own artwork, a child's artwork or anyone's art that speaks and inspires you. If you are bringing color copies think of playing with sizes and color vs black and white on the copy machine, an apron, scissors, a selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images), bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of paper towels OR an old rag, permanent black ink pad (if you have one),  1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes), a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)
