Upcoming Classes at Scrampers in Torrance

 

I am really looking forward to returning to teach at Scrampers in Torrance. The store is HUGE with lots of fun goodies and an extremely large classroom space. I'll be teaching:

August 23rd An Artist's Playground
September 27th The Painted Book: An Exploration in Layers
November 22nd Here in My Head
December 13th Journey in Black and White

Each class is four hours in length. 

  
Class time is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 
The class fee is $80 per person (per class) which includes a vast array of mediums and materials to complete the necessary project. It is well known that I do not travel light to any of my classes. I will be bringing such things as:

  • all materials necessary to complete the project (handmade paper, decorative paper, board, glue, etc...)
  • bookbinding supplies (thread, awl, needles)
  • rubber stamps 
  • ink pads 
  • decorative tape
  • stencils
  • pens and markers
  • gel medium
  • collage ephemera and much, much more.

Cancellation policy: Students are allowed to cancel 72 hours (3 days) before the class. After that, you can send someone else in your place or receive a kit.

I do not travel light to my classes at all!

August 23rd An Artist's Playground



Learn how to combine your precious bits of ephemera into a truly one of a kind artist's journal. Create a playground of self expression and discovery. You will learn how to step back and see things in your artwork that you haven't noticed before.
I have been working on this class for over two years now and am very eager to share it with you. You will be inspired in this class.
Supply list:  scissors, a selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of paper towels OR an old rag, permanent black ink pad (if you have one),  1" brush to glue (I like chip or bristle brushes) OR a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.) 


September 27th The Painted Book: An Exploration in Layers

 
 
By popular demand, I'm teaching a brand new mixed media class. Roll up your sleeves, don your aprons and prepare to get messy! We'll explore a variety of mediums including watercolor, gouache, and much, much more. Create richly painted pages which you will assemble into a canvas covered book. Learn new ways of exploring color and layering in this unique four hour workshop.

Supply list: Apron, tacky glue, scissors, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of waxed paper, roll of paper towels OR an old rag, permanent black ink pad, and 1" brush to paint and glue (I like chip or bristle brushes).
 

November 22nd Here in My Head



Construct an very unique journal with pages full of layers of colorful paper, deep musings and luscious layers that flip and fold out. (See the pictures below.) You'll then learn how to fill the pages with imagery, color, text, patterns and more that speak to you. You'll love this fun class!
 
Supply list: 1 yard of ribbon, scissors, small selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of paper towels OR an old rag, permanent black ink pad,  1" brush to glue (I like chip or bristle brushes) OR a few of your favorite glue sticks, roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)
 

December 13th A Gypsy Heart


A Gypsy Heart- Construct a rich, lusciously layered portrait of you in journal form by bringing together color, text and images onto the page. You will make visually stunning and authentic pages, all contained in a hardcover book bound by your own hands. You will leave class with several pages completed along with new ideas for the rest of your book.

Supply list:  scissors, a selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of paper towels OR an old rag, permanent black ink pad (if you have one),  1" brush to glue (I like chip or bristle brushes) OR a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)
