New Books, Magazines and Zines
It's a well known fact that I am a sucker for a good looking book. With the good ones, I'm tempted and teased until I give in (though I don't always give in. I've passed quite a few new books on by lately.) The three shown in the photo here, however, I couldn't pass up:
Bough Down by Karen Green
The Purple Book by Hyland and Lewis
Kawaii! Japan's Culture of Cute by Okazaki and Johnson
These just arrived yesterday and I haven't had a chance to read them yet. So while I can't offer you a real review of any of them, I have flipped through each several times and they entice me enough to know that I want to keep them. I know that they may not be for everyone but they definitely piqued my interest!
As far as the magazines go, I've been stalking Darling at Skylight Books for over a month now. I'd call once a week (I told you, I'm a book/magazine stalker!) and I practically jumped up and down when I was told that it was finally on the shelf! It's issue #3 (I wish I could get a copy of #1 to hold in my hands) and it's gorgeous, as always. I can't wait to dive in.
Another Escape is a new magazine. The subtitle, "A Creative Exploration" and several flip throughs made me decide that I needed to give it a test run.
I have all of the Doris Zines and I absolutely love them. Check out Cindy's work here and her blog here.
I have seen Yumi's work before at Skylight and today I finally couldn't resist picking up a zine. I am really looking forward to seeing more of her work.
What new books have you picked up lately that inspire you?
