2004/2005 Painted Pages

Above is a collage that I made (using Picasa) of eight of my journal pages from 2004-2005. I used acrylic paints (my favorite paints are from Nova Color. I have a whole post on acrylics and mediums here.)

I'll flashback some more tomorrow with some older painted and collaged pages.

I'm teaching the entire weekend (yay!) Friday through Sunday. More info here and there's plenty of room so sign up while you can!

Something that's been inspiring me:

Messenger
By Mary Oliver

My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird—
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young, and still half-perfect? Let me
keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,

which is mostly standing still and learning to be
astonished.
The phoebe, the delphinium.
The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.
Which is mostly rejoicing, since all the ingredients are here,

which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart
and these body-clothes,
a mouth with which to give shouts of joy
to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,
telling them all, over and over, how it is
that we live forever.

I remember these... :)

Love the poem... sometimes I need to be reminded, and it was just the ticket today... methinks I need a book of poetry from Mary Oliver, as this is not the only one that reaches in and squeezes where it counts.

Thank you for the poem - love it. I'm also a fan of your painted pages. Just got out a couple of the journals I did using your A Prompt A Day...they are really fine works. Thanks for them too! Lori W at Art Camp for Women
