First Day of High School

Dear Tristan,

We're very, very proud of you today.

High school is a big change. We know that you will do well in whatever you choose to do with your life. We hope that we've given you (and will continue to give you) what you need to be the wonderful young man that you are becoming. I know that as a 14 year old that this letter may sound lame now, but it was done with love, like everything else we've done for you.

Just remember to take a breath and take it day by day. It may seem overwhelming now, but it will get better. I promise.

Love always,
Your Goofy Parents
a.k.a. Mom and Dad

Such a sweet letter from very loving parents. Tristan is lucky to have you both. I hope he had a great day today and continues to have this year.

my step-daughter just started high school a few weeks ago and loves it! it has been so fun to see her glow with excitement when she talks about her classes, football games, and lots of new friends. i'm sure your son will, too. :-)

Even if it strikes Tristan as lame or goofy today, and it probably doesn't, plus if having a goofy parent or two is the worst thing that happens... this is a beautiful gift for him. Good Mom work. xo

Thanks, everyone for the encouragement. He's having a difficult time of it at the moment. He doesn't like school. He did make a couple of friends yesterday so hopefully that will help. I keep telling him it's only the first day and that the first couple of weeks will be the hardest. He's used to being home the last two years (home schooled through CAVA) so this is a big change. :)

Oh, how I remember the pain of being the new kid in high school (twice), in junior high and in many grade schools. I note from my parents would have been comforting. It is so difficult as parents to witness the opening and spreading of our children's wings. Hugs to you.

It will get better, for both of you.
High school is a huge change for anyone let alone someone who has been home schooled for a while.
I am still thinking of you both whilst you are settling in to this new area of your life :)
