Who Does She Think She Is?

Of course I just found out about this film TODAY and the screening was YESTERDAY.

I'll never forget being called "selfish" in 8th grade by a Catholic school guidance counselor for wanting to play the drums and go to Berkeley School of Music. Not sure if she wanted me to bang my drums for Jesus or what. I sold my drum set in the Fall of '95 to come to L.A. from Boston to meet my then penpal, David. He proposed 8 hours after I got off the plane. We were married a week later. During that time period I journaled, wrote poetry and doodled. I blame Tristan. It's all his fault ;). Very shortly after he was born, David suggested I look for something to do. I was lonely without any family (other then David and Tristan) or friends in L.A. I picked up a brush again (I had put it down for a couple of years and forgotten about it-life kinda got in the way) and haven't put it down since. Art's in my blood and runs deep in my veins. If I don't have a glue stick, paint brush, scissors in hand for a long period of time, I ain't happy and you can tell.

I had an art teacher in 8th grade tell me she was disappointed in me.

That cinched it for me till my 30's.

My High School art teacher hated me 'cause I didn't kiss her ass like others did.

I was livid recently when I found out she was made art teacher of the year in MA.

I don't frickin think so.

one of the only things i remember about my iowa childhood was my 1st grade teacher telling me to not color so hard with my crayons (i liked the intensity). took me years to be okay with pressing hard. so when i teach kids, i always tell them that there is no wrong way to do art -- that it is their vision. i did get the kinders to rebel against their teacher -- lol!
Right on, chickadee... I've got it in my veins too... good thing, too... 'cuz I'd go nuts, otherwise... ;^)

Contrary to you, I had an awesome art teacher... Ms. Hobildeehoy herself, Chris Harvey... she was an awesome teacher, and I kicked ass in the class, in theory, history and practical work. But... see where that got me... LOL I'm still just a wannabe... ;^)

Is this going to be released to mainstream theaters or just the artsy kind? It's got my name all over it!

my art altering experience happened in college. i was a naive 17 year old in my first year of college. my life drawing teacher went on and on about how art is our own expression.... he broke my spirit by constantly telling me i was doing it wrong when he critiqued my work. i changed majors and gave up on art.
i am 40 now and just finally getting the courage and confidence to try again.
and i owe thanks to Kelly for helping me reclaim my artistic side!
