How do we create pages that reveal our own stories? How do we find our own voices in an unending sea of noise? How do we create unique, personal art from the heart?

In this workshop, you will begin by constructing your own art journal. After selecting a hardcover book (provided) that resonates with you, we will stitch our pages into the book. Once the book is assembled (this will not take long) you will then begin to work upon the pages learning new techniques in self expression through collage, layering, painting, journaling and much, much more. You will create pages that are rich, deeply expressive and unique to you. You will walk out with a new book, several pages completed, an abundance of new ideas and the eagerness to create many more pages.

Like all of my classes, the techniques that you learn can be applied to a multitude of art forms.

Supply list: an apron, scissors, a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers), bone folder, cork back metal ruler, a full roll of paper towels OR old rags, permanent black ink pad (if you have one), a container for your paint water,  1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) as well as a few, smaller, detailed brushes,a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

Sometimes we find ourselves in a rut with our color palette. Learn how to push past the same old same old and expand your use of color.

Explore a wide variety of color possibilities! Learn how to go beyond the tube and get the look that you want in your artwork.

We will be doing collage work as well as exploring a multitude of mixed media ideas in this workshop. Prepare to get messy and be pushed (and push back) in this expressive and new workshop.

Please note that the ideas we are exploring also translate to other art mediums and fields.

Supply List: your journal, an apron, scissors, a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers), cork back metal ruler, a full roll of paper towels OR old rags, any favorite mark making tools (I will have some to share) a container for your paint water,  1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) as well as a few, smaller, detailed brushes, a small container to clean your brushes (an old jar, etc...), a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

SATURDAY

Art journaling is about discovery and self expression. Your journal is your safe place to explore, express and experiment. It's your place to get lost as you repeatedly find yourself between the layers of paper, paint and pen.

In this unique workshop, you will learn new ways to approach your pages using paper, paint and pen. Learn how to push yourself out of your creative comfort zone. You will create cohesive pages that are completely unique to you.

Here are just some of the things that this class will cover:

-Techniques to layer paint and paper.

-Ways of putting colors together (there is no such thing as mud!)

-Ideas for adding line, shape and text.

-Journaling to express and experiment.

-Lettering tips and tricks.

-Self Expression

-Creative Courage

-How to push past creative block.

-Where to find and glean ideas that you can translate to journal pages.

-How to find images and papers to suit your tastes.

and much, much more.

I am known for not traveling light. That means I will be bringing my favorite art supplies to share with you: acrylics, gel medium, stencils, pens, markers, rubber stamps, ink pads and some collage material.

Supply list: a small flat detail paint brush, a full pack of regular baby wipes, an apron, a jar for paint water, scissors, a selection of favorite collage ephemera (please think about reading this when choosing your images), bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of paper towels OR an old rag, permanent black ink pad (if you have one),  1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) along with a couple of smaller more detailed paint brushes, a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

Bring your journal to class and be prepared to get messy and walk out inspired!

In this workshop, you will learn how to brainstorm ideas for creating pattern, texture, line and shape on our pages. Learn how to take stencils, stamps and designs by others and combine them with your own unique marks (made by your own design and with brushes, pens, markers and a variety of different tools and toys.) We will also explore pushing these pre-made tools to the side and making our own one of a kind marks on our pages.

Begin the class by making playful journal pages layered with paper, paint and more. Learn how to free up anything that may be blocking your creativity by making your own marks on your pages. Create pages that are truly your own.

SUNDAY

In this special workshop, work quick and fast, without judgment, the idea being to keep your inner critic silent. You will create a series of pages that are unique to you while learning a variety of new layering techniques involving collage, acrylics, markers, stencils, stamps and more.

After we spend some time creating this way, we will step back and think about our pages. Learn to look and process your pages with new eyes. We'll then rework our pages into all new original journal pages.

Supply list: a journal or paper to work on, an apron, scissors, a selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images),  cork back metal ruler, roll of paper towels or an old rag, permanent black ink pad (only if you have one), a container for your paint water, 1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) along with a few of your favorite smaller detail brushes, a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to paint and glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

I hope to see you there!
