Just Announced: December 1-3, 2017 in Fremont Renewal and Reconnection: A Portfolio Journal

This class has been months in the making and I am very eager to share it with you.

Renewal and Reconnection: A Portfolio Journal

We're coming up to the busy time of year, a time when it seems that each holiday or event is right around the corner. In the rush of the holiday season, we tend to lose track of the present and miss the smaller, every day things that are right in front of us.

I am teaching a new class that I've developed especially for this time of the year. I chose Maria's home studio to debut the class as it is a creative, nurturing, encouraging and inviting space. Plus, I have very special plans for those of you who sign up for the workshop...

This is a special two day workshop (Saturday, December 2nd) with an optional second day (Sunday, December 3rd.)

Before the weekend workshop begins, I would like to extend an invitation to artists who take either workshop day to join us on an on-the-go art adventure! We will begin our weekend on Friday, December 1st with a trek into San Francisco for the Robert Rauschenberg exhibit, Erasing the Rules, at SFMoma. I saw this exhibit in New York this summer and I've been waiting for it to come to California. I left the NY Moma inspired, energized and bursting with ideas that I couldn't wait to put on paper. I think you will have the same feeling which is why I decided to schedule our field trip before the workshops begin. After visiting the museum, we'll trek to Japan Town and a few other surprises along the way. Bring your journal, a glue stick and a small Ziploc bag of your favorite tools  (think a few small collage bits, and one or two favorite markers.)

By scheduling the field trip before the workshop, I am hoping to enrich your art making experience.

(Please note museum admission and all expenses on Friday are on your own and not included in the workshop fees at all.)

Please note that the workshop can be taken as:

Both days to maximize and enrich your creativity
$225

one day on Saturday, December 2nd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
$150

Or Sunday, December 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
(If you are taking Sunday's workshop, please bring a journal or paper to work on.)
$75

Located at:
Maria's Studio (her home) in Fremont (Information will be sent once you sign up though if you have any questions, please email me. Please note that this is a private home and that Maria has two cats that live there. She also has a B and B if you are looking for a place to stay during the weekend.)

Renewal and Reconnection: A Portfolio Journal is a fresh, new workshop that teaches a variety of NEW ideas involving collage, creative processing, self expression, composition, design, layering, painting and much, much more.

My workshops are always process-based learning while creating something completely unique to you.

Please note there is a small supply list.

Beginners to advanced are welcome in ALL of the classes.

Interested in signing up? Questions? Please email Kelly for more info! EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Payments for the Fremont, CA workshop must be made in advance. Due to the fact that the teacher is traveling from Los Angeles and must prep for the workshops in advance, there are no cancellations allowed. No refunds.

You may send someone else in your place if you are unable to attend the workshop, or you will receive a kit for the class. You can either pay via paypal (see button below) or send a check or money order. Once you've signed up for the workshop, you will be sent the address and directions to the workshop location. If you have ANY questions you can email me. I will also give you my cell phone number so you contact me.

The class fee includes a vast array of mediums and materials to complete  the necessary project. It is well known that I do not travel light to  any of my classes. I will be bringing such things are:

  • all materials necessary to complete the project (handmade paper, decorative paper, board, glue, etc...)
  • bookbinding supplies (thread, awl, needles)
  • rubber stamps
  • ink pads

  • stencils

Renewal and Reconnection: A Portfolio Journal

This has always been my favorite time of year, where one turns inward. I think of it as a time for renewal, introspection and a time to reconnect with yourself and the world around you.

In this special workshop, you will create a unique and personal journal portfolio. Learn new techniques in: layering, collage, painting, mark making and more. Create rich pages along with a colorful portfolio (additional  ideas for bookbinding and more will be discussed and available if you would rather turn your portfolio into a bound journal.)

This class has been months in the making and I am very eager to share it with you.

You can take the workshop as a two day workshop  (new ideas and exercises each day) or as a stand alone, one day workshop.

Supply list: an apron, scissors, a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers), bone folder, cork back metal ruler, a full roll of paper towels OR old rags, permanent black ink pad (only if you have one), a container for your paint water,  1 to 2" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) as well as a few, smaller, detailed brushes, a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

The day before the workshop, we will be venturing into San Francisco to SFMoma for the Rauschenberg exhibit. We'll also trek to Japan Town and a few other surprises along the way. You are welcome to join us. I saw the Rauschenberg exhibit in NY and left the museum extremely inspired and eager to work on my own art. By scheduling the field trip before the workshop, I am hoping to enrich your art making experience.

(Please note museum admission and all expenses on Friday are on your own.)

I hope to see you in December!

I am just devastated that I cannot attend this one -- I've wanted to come back for more since I took your course in August. Man, I seem to have a link to you (like a reverse ESP) that I set up travel on the same weekends you are teaching in Northern California. But I will make another class one of these days. I've filled in the journal we made in August and have started a couple more: you are inspiring!
