FRIDAY, February 17th:
In this class, you will learn how to glean inspiration from your favorite artists and create fresh, new, vibrant journal pages that combines their work with yours. I took the work of one of my favorite artists both collage and idea wise and melded it with my own work.
We will begin the class by making a quick, pamphlet stitch journal but I want the focus of the class to be about making the pages. I ask that students please bring a book or color copies of the work of one of their favorite artists (the images do not have to be of people, it can be an abstract artist, a photographer, a sculpture artist, a kid's art, your art as a kid, your old art) whatever kind of art calls to you but you have to be able and willing to cut it up. You will learn how to look at their work with new eyes and how to incorporate what they have done into your own work, making new, original work in your own distinct style. Not only did I collage with bits of my favorite artist's work but I also borrowed mark making, layouts, thoughts and other ideas. I wanted to make completely new and original pieces that looked like my work as I learned from her. You will learn how to do the same in this all day workshop.
Supply list: Bring either several different copies or an inexpensive book (to tear up) of your favorite artist's work, OR even copies of your own artwork, a child's artwork or anyone's art that speaks and inspires you. If you are bringing color copies think of playing with sizes and color vs black and white on the copy machine, an apron, scissors, a selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images

Journaling doesn't have to be about special events nor does it have to be limited to what you ate for breakfast. In this four hour workshop, we'll focus on the everyday, simple moments that add up to an individual lifetime of experiences and thoughts. You'll learn how to revel in the daily moments and turn them into art journal pages. Be prepared to get messy, be pushed out of your box, laugh, learn (a lot) and have some fun.

Where do we start when we put pen to paper? How do we translate what is in our heads to our visual art journal pages? How do we combine the visual with the written word?
Learn to combine paper, paint and pen to create visually expressive and unique journal pages. In this class, you will learn a plethora of layering techniques using not only your pens and markers but also paint, paper and more. Think that you know there is to putting your heart onto paper? Think again. I first developed this class to challenge myself and now I'm challenging you. We will make a quick accordion fold journal at the beginning in class. Then be prepared to get messy and to spill out onto the page.

Combining visual art with the written word is a passion of mine. I am always searching for new ways to bring together paper, paint and pen.
Want to make your pages come alive? Then bring your journal to class where you will learn not only how to add text to your pages but where, when and what to write. SUNDAY CLASS, February 19th:
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In this unique all day workshop, you will create a lavishly layered book full of color, paper, text, paint, stencils and everything with which we can get our hands dirty with. We'll combine all new layers of collage, color, text and images onto the pages. We’ll learn how to push, pull and rework the pages, digging deep and discovering new visual delights on each and every page. This is the class you have been waiting for.
