A Fantastic Night
Last night, David and I trekked to two exhibits in different parts of Southern California. Good art, an ice cream on a hot night (with no ac in the car) and damn good company made the trek worth while.
Our first stop was at CSUN for the Comic Book Apocalypse: The Graphic World of Jack Kirby exhibit. My only complaint about the evening is that the instructions on how to get to the parking lot (lot D6) are atrocious on the website. You have to go BEHIND the lots to get to it. We saw lots of other folks driving around trying to figure out how to get to the lot so it wasn't just us. Once inside, I was pleasantly surprised by how large the exhibit was. Below you will find a handful of my favorite pieces. I really loved seeing Kirby's collages in person and included what the exhibit posted about his collage work.
We stayed at CSUN until a few minutes before the exhibit closed. It was great to see so many familiar faces. It was like a mini version of SDCC. I love that comics are being taken as the true art form that they are and that so many people trekked to Northridge for the exhibit.
Next up (after seeing the absolutely breathtaking, straight out of a sci-fi movie, moon last night) was heading down the 405 to West Los Angeles to see "In Box" Curated by Audrey Kawasaki at Giant Robot 2. I enjoyed the exhibit and here are some of my favorite pieces. Click on them and look close at the little details.
