14 December 2012 Journal Page
Back to pages inside of my Joie de Vivre journal. I stepped outside of my comfort zone with this book and used a tool that I absolutely loathe: an x-acto knife! There are lots of cut outs in this book. The pages go beyond just simply cutting out holes and windows which hopefully you'll see as I share them here with you. Thanks again to everyone who played along with the 10 minute challenge. I am enjoying seeing the pages that folks have done. Someone asked how I work. I usually tend to work daily in my journal in 30-60 minute spurts (sometimes longer.) I work page by page and in order I don't jump around in my journal. I date every page. There are days though when I can only work for small chunks of time in my book. I take what I can and it all adds up in the end. Getting something done on a page is important to me. I need that small bit of daily creative, introspective me time. It's an essential, non negotiable element to my life. |

It was wonderful to meet you. I don't have your email address or else I'd write to you personally. :) I hope that you have fun working in your new journal. Thanks for all of your kind words. Keep in touch!

I used to hate Xacto knives, too. Now I go to them often to get things done that aren't practical with scissors, and I actually like using them. I don't know what changed my mind. The only thing I do differently is that I'm no longer afraid to waste a blade, and I change blades really often. Also, I've eased up on the pressure over the years, and I make sure my cutting mat is perfectly clean and not nicked before I use it. Other than that, there's no reason for me to have suddenly made this about face, but one day I realized that I'd gone from hating it to keeping a spare in my supply bag at all times.
