Finished the journal that I've been working in last night:

My fave thing on this page is something Tristan said to me the other night. "Mom, I can tell you're tired. You have sleeping bags under your eyes." I wrote it around the picture on the above page.

So, I finished my old journal, and got started on a new one right away. It's a new size and it even has a neat pocket on the inside covers!!

Tristan and I joined in with the teachers, parents and some students at his grade school to support UTLA and to STOP THE BUDGET CUTS. From 7:50 to 8:50, we marched around his school wearing signs and shouting "Hey Hey, Ho Ho, Schwarzenegger's budget cuts have got to go...", etc... I was very happy to see several of Tristan's teachers there. The line of parents and children seemed to grow each time we wound our way around the school again.

My favorite moment was how every time we walked around the school and we got near the playground area, all of the kids would come running to the fence and "walk" with us (even though they were INSIDE the playground). It was very, very cool.

Would you actually believe that LAUSD's Superintendent David Brewer did a mass phone in of parents of LAUSD students last night??? Around dinner time we received a phone call calling today's protest a "Walk out" (how can the teachers walk out when they didn't even clock in until 8:50??) and that they didn't support it. Bull crap! You can bet that the Governor's kids go to a Private and not a Public school. These cuts will not affect his children.

WE support our teachers. WE support our schools. WE support our children and their RIGHT to receive a proper, decent education.

We do NOT support budget cuts. We do NOT support firing and cutting teachers' jobs. We do NOT support an increase in class sizes. We do NOT support what the Governor is trying to do to our school system.

There will be a rally in Sacramento on June 17th-it's called the California Children's Rally. Find out more here.

Kelly - what I love about you is that you don't just talk about your convictions you take action - you walk your talk! Good for you and good for all the other parents and courageous teachers who took a stand - how our government can take away from an already failing educational system and from the children is beyond me! As a former teacher (inner city Atlanta, GA) I know what it's like to be in the classroom with no supplies, overcrowded and no aids! You GO girl! xo reva

I'm glad you're supporting the teachers. I do believe the budget cuts are everywhere for them. Our local schools are just awful and the local city government could care less. I hope our new governor can do some good things and help our school systems out. Good for you, the others that were there and the teachers.
