Long Tall Journal Sample #2
Here's another sample of my Long Tall Journal which I will be debuting at Paper Post in Agoura next Saturday, March 10th. I've been wanting to teach this class for a long time. It's a different size and shape (more rectangular and elongated) then other journals I have done. I really believe in stretching, and using different size journals every now and then as it helps to avoid "the rut" and pushes you towards working in a different direction.And yes, you will get to pick your own gorgeous papers to decorate the covers of the journal along with various trim and ribbon that I will be bringing. There are lots of surprises (and fun!) in store for those that sign up. I guarantee it!

Last night I started reading Need More Love by Aline Kominsky Crumb. So far I'm thoroughly enjoying it and I'm about a 1/4 of the way through it. I read 112 pages last night mostly dealing with her upbringing, family life and such. I'm now where she meets Crumb and how she participated in Wimmen's Comix.
She often comments that she can't "draw" the way that Robert and their daughter Sophie Crumb do. It always amazes me when people say that they can't "draw". I honestly and truly believe that everyone can "draw" and that everyone can be creative (if they want to be). I might not be able to draw like "insert famous artist X here" BUT I can draw, and so can you. The more you do it, the more you develop your own sense and style.
You can pick up Aline's work and know that she did it vs. something created by, say, Marjane Satrapi (another woman artist who has been "accused" of "not being able to draw"-bullshit-she most certainly can! You pick up anything by Satrapi and you KNOW who created it and you KNOW it will be good!!)
Bottom line when it comes to drawing (and any kind of art making): Just draw. Don't compare your work to *anyone* else's work. Keep doing it for YOU only. Go on, you can do it. You know you can...
