What You'll Find Here

I post daily (photos of my journal pages, things that inspire me and personal bits and pieces) to inspire and encourage others. I have always believed that if I can do it, so can you.

You'll find resources (my favorite supplies, books, slideshows of my art journal pages, favorite bloggers, etc...) listed along the right hand side of my blog.

I've been teaching both in person and online workshops for more than twenty years. You can find out more about my classes by scrolling down along the right hand side of my blog. I strive to make classes accessible to everyone (both beginner to advanced).

I love teaching and truly believe that deep down inside everyone is an artist, capable of creating something. There is power and knowledge in the act of creating something with your own hands, made from your own heart and head.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Thanks for stopping by!

Books for Sale August 2017

I am selling some of my beloved books.

Please note that as the books sell, I will remove them from the blog HERE.

I am extremely picky about the conditions of my books so consider them new (unless otherwise noted.) They are in excellent condition, free from markings, etc. HC is a hardcover book while PB is paperback. I can send extra photos (on request) for books listed with flaws. All books are exactly as described.

Shipping is extra. If you buy more than one book, I will combine shipping charges and refund you the difference.

I guarantee that the books will be well packaged.

Insurance is extra, but recommended. USPS media mail includes free tracking.

Unless requested (and for an additional fee of whatever the actual shipping cost is), all books will ship via media mail.

Please note the shipping is for US residents. Outside of the US, please email me for a quote.

When a book is sold, I will mark it sold (and as soon as possible).

I will offer a discount on combined book purchases.

Please note that I will be traveling this week and will ship the books on or after August 8th. If I will see you in person soon, I can hand the books to you to save you shipping.

If you have any questions please email me at Egorey99@sbcglobal.net

Please email me at EGorey99@sbcglobal.net with BOOKS in the subject line and in the body of the email, the list of books that you want. I will then send you an invoice. Remember, if you buy more than one book, I will offer you a discount on the overall price AND shipping.

Thanks for looking and for giving my books a good home!

What I'm Reading

I've been trying to read more books about artists whose work I know nothing about. I'll be picking up one of these today from the pile next to the bed. Not sure which one yet.

I've been reading about The Bay Area Figurative Movement this summer. Enraptured and enthralled by all of it.

Just Announced: The Odyssey Journal August 23rd AM Workshop in Beverlywood

I am very happy to announce that I will be teaching a NEW and unique workshop at a private Los Angeles home (the class is open to the public for this workshop. Details will be sent upon registration.)

Wednesday, August 23rd

The Odyssey Journal

My workshops aim to teach a variety of NEW ideas involving collage, creative processing, self expression, composition, design, layering, painting and much, much more.

My workshops are always process-based learning while creating a unique product. I am well known for not traveling light and bring a large variety of supplies including (but not limited to) collage material, rubber stamps, stencils, pens, markers, tape and more. Please note there is a small supply list.

Beginners to advanced are welcome in ALL of the classes.

Interested in signing up? Questions? Please email Kelly for more info! EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Payments for the Los Angeles workshop must be made in advance. Due to the fact that the teacher must prep for the workshops in advance, there are no cancellations allowed. No refunds. You may send someone else in your place if you are unable to attend the workshop, or you will receive a kit for the class. You can either pay via paypal (see button below) or send a check or money order. Once you've signed up for the workshop, you will be sent the address and directions to the workshop location. If you have ANY questions you can email me. I will also give you my cell phone number so you contact me.

The class fee includes a vast array of mediums and materials to complete the necessary project. It is well known that I do not travel light to any of my classes. I will be bringing such things are:

  • all materials necessary to complete the project (handmade paper, decorative paper, board, glue, etc...)
  • bookbinding supplies (thread, awl, needles)
  • rubber stamps
  • ink pads
  • decorative tape
  • stencils
  • pens and markers
  • gel medium
  • collage ephemera and much, much more.

I do not travel light to my classes at all!
If there are any problems with the paypal button, please email EGorey99@sbcglobal.net Thanks!

Art Odysseys November 3rd-5th at B. Strong Studio in Taos, NM

I am very excited to announce that I will be teaching at Art Odysseys at B. Strong Studio in Taos, New Mexico. This is my first time teaching in Taos. I have been wanting to visit the area for many years and am over the moon thinking of the possibilities and inspiration that awaits us there! Three days of art making in New Mexico! How amazing is that?!

November 3rd-5th:

Authenticity: Finding Your Voice Through Art Journaling - THE SESSIONS at B. Strong Studio in Taos, NM

These sessions are a SERIES of separate, but related workshops that teach a variety of NEW ideas in collage, creative processing, self expression, composition, design, layering, painting and much, much more.

The workshop has been broken down in a way that allows you to take one, two or the entire three day weekend. (There is a very good possibility that those who enroll in the entire three days will finish the journal that they make in class on Friday.)

My workshops are always process-based learning while creating a unique product. I am well known for not traveling light and bring a large variety of supplies including (but not limited to) acrylic paints and mediums, collage material, rubber stamps, stencils, pens, markers, tape and more.

Please note there is a small supply list below the class description.

Beginners to advanced are welcome in ALL of my classes.

Interested in signing up? Please contact Mikki at Art Odysseys for more information.

Questions about the workshop? Please email Kelly for more info! EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Authenticity: Finding Your Voice Through Art Journaling THE SESSIONS

Art journaling is about discovery and self expression. Your journal is your safe place to explore, express and experiment. It's your place to get lost as you repeatedly find yourself between the layers of paper, paint and pen.

In these unique series (or SESSIONS) of workshops, you will learn new ways to approach your pages using paper, paint and pen. Learn how to push yourself out of your creative comfort zone. You will create cohesive pages that are completely unique to you.
Each session stands on its own and nothing is repeated.

Here are just some of the things that this class will cover:

-Making a Journal from scratch.

-Techniques to layer paint and paper.

-Ways of putting colors together (there is no such thing as mud!)

-Ideas for adding line, shape and text.

-Journaling to express and experiment.

-Lettering tips and tricks.

-Self Expression

-Creative Courage

-How to push past creative block.

-Where to find and glean ideas that you can translate to journal pages.

-How to find images and papers to suit your tastes.

and much, much more.

Please bring your journal to class (email me if you have any questions) as well as the small supply list below.

I am known for not traveling light. That means I will be bringing my favorite art supplies to share with you: acrylics, gel medium, stencils, pens, markers, rubber stamps, ink pads and some collage material.

Supply list: a journal or paper to work on (even if you are making a journal in the Friday AM class it is nice to be able to work back and forth between two books if you like to do so),a small flat detail paint brush, a full pack of regular baby wipes, an apron, scissors, a selection of favorite collage ephemera (please think about reading this when choosing your images), bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of paper towels OR an old rag, permanent black ink pad (if you have one),  1" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes), a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer), roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

I look forward to seeing you there!
