What You'll Find Here

I post daily (photos of my journal pages, things that inspire me and personal bits and pieces) to inspire and encourage others. I have always believed that if I can do it, so can you.

You'll find resources (my favorite supplies, books, slideshows of my art journal pages, favorite bloggers, etc...) listed along the right hand side of my blog.

I've been teaching both in person and online workshops for almost twenty years now. You can find out more about my classes by scrolling down along the right hand side of my blog. I strive to make classes accessible to everyone (both beginner to advanced).

I love teaching and truly believe that deep down inside everyone is an artist, capable of creating something. There is power and knowledge in the act of creating something with your own hands, made from your own heart and head.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Thanks for stopping by!

Jet Pens: New Pens!

As part of their sponsorship program, JetPens sent me a $25 gift certificate to play with. I knew what I wanted immediately. Here's what I ordered:

Platinum Carbon Desk Fountain Pen - Super Fine + 1 Carbon Ink Cartridge
Platinum Carbon Pen Ink Cartridge - Pack of 4 - Black
Sakura Pigma Professional Brush Pen - Bold - Black
Sakura Pigma Professional Brush Pen - Fine - Black
Kuretake Disposable Pocket Brush Pen - Ex

I've played with all of the above pens and hands down, my favorite is the Platinum Carbon Desk Fountain Pen - Super Fine. It almost reminds me of my beloved .35 Rapidosketch but in fountain pen form. It's smooth as it glides across paper, magazine pages, (dried) painted pages, and even washi tape! I'll be playing with this one for awhile. The cartridges are inexpensive and easy to pop in. It's definitely a keeper and my favorite new (to me) pen.

I also liked both of the

The Kuretake Disposable Pocket Brush Pen - Extra Fine is also nice. I like the extra fine tip. Like the pens above, it writes great on dried paint but not so well on tape.

What I'm Reading: Comics

I guess I should've made my bed before I took this photo but this is pretty much how I spent my weekend. Sure, I did some work. I created the print that I'll be giving folks who pre-order my latest book, Visual Poetry. I helped both David and Tristan out with some of their projects. I did some TV watching (Grimm, IZombie and Daredevil.) For the most part, I did a lot of reading.

I like to read my comics in chunks. I've read maybe half of the above comics so far. My favorites are:

-Ms Marvel (one of the BEST comics being made right now and my current favorite)

-Sensation Comics Presents Wonder Woman (I've only read issues 3, 8 and 9 but I really, really liked them. I'm hoping to pick up the collected trade paperback)

-Sergio Aragones' Funnies (I love these autobiographical well drawn and superbly written comics)

-Lumberjanes (another great series for pretty much everyone. Love the original art and unique stories. Not to mention the mix tape at the end of each issue!)

-Sandman Overtures (I'm a huge Sandman fan and this doesn't disappoint. Visually stunning. Hard to put down.)

-Wayward (I've only read the first issue and I'm eager to read more. Not for kids.)

-Bee and Puppycat (not for kids but I love the art and the stories!)

Free Comic Book Day is this coming Saturday. Find out more here. You'll find me at Golden Apple Comics, my friendly neighborhood comics shop. I'm hoping to pick up:
Comics Festival
Super Mutant Magic Academy
The Tick
CBDLF Defend Comics
The Phantom

Do you read comics? If so, what are you reading? If not, what's stopping you? They're not just for kids!

Big Thanks

A very big thanks to everyone who expressed interest in my new book, Visual Poetry, yesterday. I added some feedback for my last published offerings to the post (for those of you wondering about the quality.) I also forgot to add that I will be signing each copy. All pre-orders will also be hand bound by me. I'm also including a free, signed, numbered and limited edition print for pre-orders of Visual Poetry. You won't see it anywhere else! It's always a bit nerve wracking to share pieces of yourself with the world. I always appreciate the interest.

In other news, I'm starting to plan for the summer and figuring out what I need for my travels. I tend to over pack class supplies (even the kids I home school asked why I brought so much to classes.) After 18 years, you'd think it would be a breeze but it always makes me a bit anxious. Paper. Tape. Stencils. Stamps. Ink Pads. Bookbinding Supplies. Collage Stuff. Paints. Mediums. Let the list making commence!

Feedback on my Previous Offerings:

"I didn't think I could love the paper versions as much as the PDF, but they are so BEAUTIFUL!!!! What a great job, Kelly--the size, the paper, the colors totally do your amazing work justice--as soon as I finish cooking I'm going to sit down and disappear. Thank you! Even the package is better than perfect!"-MM

"Hi Kelly! It is quite stunning, girl! I am SO proud of you!"-RC

The timing of this sweet book was perfect and I look forward to sinking into your images and words in the coming days. The printing of this book is exquisite and the colors are fabulous. Thank you for this work of art."-KB

"Kelly! Happy Thanksgiving. Your book came yesterday; I am still reeling from all the beautiful artwork and big and small flourishes. I loved the stamps and the tape and the rubber stamping, every little detail whimsical and important (how you!!) and each page so filled with details, personal depth, etc. I hope this is the first of a series. Thank you for this intimate and inspiring sharing of your beautiful self."-CM

"Yesterday your booklet arrived. Happy dance! It is as lovely as I imagined it to be. I really love your pages - small wonder I always come back to your classes. Thank you for sharing this; it is a huge difference to just seeing the pages on the Internet."-AB

"was neatening one of my many stacks of papers just now and came across Kelly T.M. Kilmer 's fabulous book she recently published! I put it there so i wouldnt forget to mention it or thank her- ah well. Anyways, she recently published a small journal that is a collection of her art journal pages. it is small and intimate. the printing is like a very expensive magazine. The imagery is so clear I found myself- often- touching the pages to feel their textures- its so real! Its put together beautifully and handstitched. if you don't have one yet, make sure to contact Kelly- it is the perfect gift for your favorite journaler. Truly genuine and honest work! I loved it! Way to go Kelly! You did an incredible job!" -JC

"Love your little book. Super cool and great colors."-TS

"Hello, Kelly! Your book came in the mail yesterday to my office address. My coworker said "there are such pretty stamps on that envelope." Why, yes, I thought, of course there are! I can not fully express how much I was touched by every page you created. Such depth in your words, and tender reflection in the combination of images and colors. I am always inspired by your work and encouraged by what you write. Thank you, so much, for sharing your heart and art."-CB

"Got my book in the mail yesterday and you did a wonderful job on it! Your work is so fresh, honest and open and this was a real treat to receive. Keep up the journaling as it inspires others to journal too."-D
