Halloween 2015

On Halloween, David and I trekked to the Hollywood Bowl to see Danny Elfman and cast perform the soundtrack to The Nightmare Before Christmas. My Mom and Sister bought us the tickets for my birthday and it was one heck of a present! I had never been to the Hollywood Bowl before and it was decorated for the night. There were trick or treat stations and LOTS of costumes inspired by Tim Burton's films.

It was a truly great night. Danny Elfman is one of my favorite musicians and performers. The live orchestra was spot on. Ken Page singing "Oogie Boogie's Song" was just awesome. I got shivers hearing Catherine O' Hara sing "Sally's Song." My smile was huge when Paul Reubens joined O' Hara and Elfman to perform, "Kidnap Mr Sandy Claws."

One of the biggest highlights of the night was seeing Danny Elfman reunite onstage with Steve Bartek to perform their Oingo Boingo classic, Dead Man's Party. I saw Boingo perform in Boston in 1995 on their farewell tour. David had never seen them (though he did have tickets - in fact, still has - to their final Los Angeles show in '95) so it was a very special night.

Tim Burton, Danny Elfman and Nightmare Before Christmas have all played an important role in my life. If it weren't for Nightmare, David and I wouldn't have met. It was also a very special treat to spend part of the show with our friend who helped to bring us together. To say that we were happy to go to the show is an understatement. All of this is a story for another time (I'm saving it for our 20th Anniversary coming up later this year.) I have to unearth some personal history treasures before I share and that requires digging and time. Stay tuned. In the meantime, I hope that this puts as big of a smile on your face as it did mine:

There are more videos and great photos of the night here.
