Little Gifts

When David and I were helping my Mom move heavy furniture a couple of weeks ago, we discovered several papers that were stuck in a drawer of my maternal Grandmother's hope chest. In a small pile, were photographs we had never seen including two small books in my grandmother's handwriting and a couple of postcards from my Grandma Peg to Grandpa Frank as well as one from my Aunt Alice Riley who we loved to visit in Dorchester and later Rhode Island. Little handwritten gifts that I am holding close.

such a gift, to find those items! I had a very few letters my beloved Grandpa Andy had written to me, along with three of the handwritten notes he left in the farmhouse door when he'd leave to go check livestock or work in the barn or workshop -- when we first moved into this house, we were robbed, and the thieves took a box I had marked 'important papers' - that box. My grandpa only had an 8th grade education and did NOT like to write! so they were precious from that angle, too!

What a fabulous find, Kelly! I have some notes & cards written in my grandparents & parents handwriting & now that they're gone, they mean even more. I'm happy you found such a treasure...and they're in good hands with you.
