27 January 2013 Journal Page

This was a fun page. I was just playing around when I made it (what am I saying? I'm almost always playing around when I make a page.) I like the big cut out X in the middle of the page. I wasn't able to completely conquer my fear of an x-acto knife with this book but I sure as heck had fun making it.

Prepped and ready for my Wanderlust class tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. Banana Rose is right on the lake in Westlake Village and going there always makes me smile. It's gorgeous.

I have to add a tip of the hat to Roger Ebert. Like many, I grew up watching the various incarnations of his shows. In more recent years, I enjoyed his blog, facebook and twitter posts. He's going to be missed. I found an excerpt from his book, Life Itself: A Memoir, on Salon and thought I'd post a quote here that resonated:

"“Kindness” covers all of my political beliefs. No need to spell them out. I believe that if, at the end, according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier, and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn’t always know this and am happy I lived long enough to find it out."-Roger Ebert
