What You'll Find Here

I post daily (photos of my journal pages, things that inspire me and personal bits and pieces) to inspire and encourage others. I have always believed that if I can do it, so can you.

You'll find resources (my favorite supplies, books, slideshows of my art journal pages, favorite bloggers, etc...) listed along the right hand side of my blog.

I've been teaching both in person and online workshops for almost twenty years now. You can find out more about my classes by scrolling down along the right hand side of my blog. I strive to make classes accessible to everyone (both beginner to advanced).

I love teaching and truly believe that deep down inside everyone is an artist, capable of creating something. There is power and knowledge in the act of creating something with your own hands, made from your own heart and head.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at EGorey99@sbcglobal.net

Thanks for stopping by!

New Pens from JetPens!

JetPens was kind enough to send me a $25 gift certificate to try out several new pens! (Thanks, JetPens!)

I can't pick a favorite as I love them all for different reasons! The Morning Glory Mach Pen II .04 in black is smooth and the ink just flows (I need more of these! Lucky for me it does come in an assortment of colors). The Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pen in pink is FUN to write with and I am VERY tempted to get these in other colors. I am in love with the hi tec .05 candy colored pens. They are a fine point so some folks might not like them but I enjoy journaling, doodling and making marks with the finer tip pens especially in colors like these!

I am looking forward to experimenting more with the pens in my journal. I haven't painted over any of them but I did run a dry finger over them and they didn't smear. I ran a slightly damp finger over the pens right away and they smeared a little but since I'm using these with mostly dry mediums, they'll be fine!

Who doesn't love a new pen (especially if it's pink!?)

Here's what I ordered:

Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pen - Pink

Morning Glory Mach II Liquid Ink Pen - 0.4 mm - Black

Pilot Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink Pen - 0.5 mm - Cutie Colors - Mango Orange

Pilot Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink Pen - 0.5 mm - Nature Colors - Apple Green

Pilot Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink Pen - 0.5 mm - Cosmetic Colors - Elegance Pink

Pilot Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink Pen - 0.5 mm - Cosmetic Colors - Mandarin Orange

Pilot Hi-Tec-C Gel Ink Pen - 0.5 mm - European Colors - Camellia Pink

Books I'm Reading Right Now

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn; Writing to Heal the Soul; The Long Goodbye; Art and Healing

I've always been the kind of person who looks for answers in a book. That said, I don't necessarily think that books always have the answer but they usually push me in the right direction that I need at the moment. Right now I don't exactly know what the hell I'm looking for.

I'm going to start A Tree Grows in Brooklyn this week. I've never read it nor have I seen the film. My Dad often said that it was "his story." I never asked what he meant and now it's time to see if I can figure out what he was talking about.

I'm more than halfway through The Long Goodbye. It didn't help me until I got to the part after her Mother dies and she starts talking about what she's going through. She uses the word yearning to describe her loss. That's exactly what I feel right now. I want to reach out to family and friends and talk about the past. I want the damn phone to ring and for it to be my Dad asking me for the umpteenth time, "What are you doing?" with the TV blaring in the background. I want another road trip to Colorado with my Dad. I don't want to say that I'm enjoying the book as they would totally be the wrong words in describing a book of this nature but that it is helping me to process certain things.

What's making me nuts is that with the abundance of journaling books out there, that the books on actually journaling grief are far and few between. I haven't read either of the above books but have flipped through them and have had them long enough in my library to hope that they will lead to something beneficial. I'm not religious. I don't want to hear about death in the light of "you'll see him again" or anything like that. I want to process what's going on in my life NOW to help me to heal. Dad's death was very sudden and unexpected. My whole family is feeling such a deep loss right now. I need to be able to process things the way that I do best by using my art journal.

Wish me luck on my journey.
