Collections

Some people tend to think that I collect a lot of things. Not really. Yes, while I love my paper, books, old diaries, pens, tape, alphabet and number sets, I'm very selective about what I bring into our home. We live in a tiny space and don't have a lot of room for a ton of stuff.

One of the things that I can't resist are old stamp sets bought in bits and pieces. I tend to look for X's and O's, letters to spell out favorite words (like peace and love) and numbers in a vast variety of sizes. I try to buy ones that are usable (where the rubber isn't cracked or missing portions.) I love the character that they provide when they don't stamp well on a page. I rarely use them but I like looking at them and imagining their previous life.

What are some of the things that you collect?

I have quite a few old stamps too. I like old office supplies. the tools and the papers..... Some day I'd like to have an old desk set up with my old typewriter ( an underwood) and some of my other supplies on it... Inkwell, dip pen, old fountain pens... Neat old hole punch... I really need to get a ribbon for the underwood though... While they still have them on eBay...

I love old glass jars and bottles ... can be mason jars to perfume bottles. Just love colored glass! I also collect old tins ... and back when I could find them, Crayola crayon tins. Oh, and I have always loved collecting pens, markers, etc.

Maybe the question should be...what don't I collect!

I can relate to this post Kelly. I have a small place myself and I too am a fan of certain types of tools for creating. I have I supplies in bins in the closets, in the very small attic I have, under the bed, on shelf's, on my desk I need a studio in a bad way!!

I love beautiful things. They say that my first phrase was, "Pretty, pretty, pretty." I collect rubber stamps, ephemera, pens, gorgeous paper, ceramics, art supplies, oddities and anything Frida Kahlo. Indonesian painted wood animals, Mexican pottery and saints, neat old paintings, colorful vessels and old books populate the mantle and shelves in my living room. I illuminate the tableaux with fairy lights and candles. Quite magical.

I have always been a pen freak so have been ordering from JetPens a couple times a month lately(thanks, Kelly!!! LOL) I also collect old books to use in collage, especially dictionaries!! I am working on collecting lots of tapes to use in collage--bought my first rolls about 5 years ago and have slowly been adding to my collection. I wish this was the extent of my collecting but it isn't!!

I like jewellery findings, keys, examples of old handwriting on old postcards or unopened letters- especially if they're local addresses. I keep them in Ikea Tupperware boxes so they're easy to stack and keep organised.

Where do you source your stamps? My charity shops/local boot fairs don't have anything that fun :/

As a crafter... I think the question should be what don't I collect??? LOL Seriously... I can't pass up anything small... such as travel water color sets, small pens-pencils-markers etc. Also.. Our Lady of Guadalupe figures, discarded religious medals and charms for jewelry and old rosary parts.... oh, and beads.. lots of beads!

Lianne, I mostly find them once every so often in thrift stores. I have seen them on etsy but think they are $$$ there. EBay, too.
