5 September 2011 Journal Page

The mini page that you see above is actually a small pocket calendar page from K and Company's Smash line. I taped it into the spine of the pages. I've been jotting down daily activities on one side and collaging on the other.

The page on the right- I drew the heart and the border around the label. I did not draw the hands but I colored them in using Sakura Souffle and Glaze pens. I've been trying to draw more in this journal. I used to draw all of the time but have gotten away from it for some time now.

Last night we had a great time at the Academy on Wilshire. We went to a Tribute to Malcolm McDowell and the 40th Anniversary screening of a Clockwork Orange. I had been looking forward to going since tickets were announced. We were very fortunate to have been able to even get tickets. I was lucky enough to meet Malcolm McDowell at Comic Con two years ago. He was extremely polite and very much a gentleman.

It was a thrill to see him last night. I loved every minute of it from his continuous banter with Ed Begley, Jr (who was sitting in the audience) to his explanation of the milk salute at the beginning of Clockwork to his ping ping with Kubrick stories and much, much more. He definitely knows how to tell a story!! If you're interested in watching a video of the interview last night you can find it here.

I'm off to prep for my class tomorrow. I hope that everyone is having a nice weekend!

I love the page from the Smash mini and I esp. love the right side page. I love that you're drawing in your journals too. That's so great. You amaze me every time you post something new. I'm glad you guys had fun at the Academy. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I'll be back for the interview link...my son read about it ahead of the event in the Times, about McDowell finally making peace with "Clockwork Orange" being his iconic work...I say he has plenty of iconic roles. Glad you got to be there. Aren't we lucky...Hollywood. xo

P.S. And how did you color the hands with the Sakura pens you mentioned...I foolishly assumed they were really for line work, not filling in?

I colored bit by bit with the glaze and souffle pens. I love coloring them. You have to wait for them to dry before you can layer them.
Hope this helps!
