November 7th journal page

I finished reading Julia Child's My Life In France yesterday. Honestly, I never thought I'd sit down and read a book about her . It was interesting, fascinating and extremely engaging. It makes me want to pack my bags and move to France. Now. I also thought her relationship with her Father was very insightful, on many levels. That part was a little painful to read, as I can relate (not my Dad. I can talk to my Dad about anything without him blowing up) how painful it is to not be able to talk to someone without having them explode on you. I'm not sure if I will see the film, but I would recommend the book.

I also read Peter Jenkins' A Walk Across America. I have mixed feelings about it. If I had to read the words "my forever friend" one more time, I was going to hurl the book across the room. I also wanted more information on the people he was supposed to be meeting with and talking to. For the most part it left me shaking my head.

Thank you Samantha for sending both books my way! They will be passed them on to good homes.

I devoured Neil Gaiman's Stardust in about two nights. I wasn't sure if I would like it after the first few pages, but I persevered and ended up enjoying it. I didn't love it, but it was a good, though quite guessable read. (After the first couple of chapters, I figured out who was who and guessed at what was going to happen. I was right.)

I now have Birth of Venus to read. It's not a book I would have picked up on my own. In fact, none of the above books were on my "look for list", but all were worth reading. It's always fun to curl up with a good book. Thank you Stephanie for sending me Stardust and Birth of Venus.

I also picked up The Assassin's Cloak to read after spying it on a friend's photo she had of her bookshelves (yup. The secret is out. I like bookshelf p*rn, as they call it! Show me books, baby!!!). What is The Assassin's Cloak? What? It's an anthology of diary entries? Oooh. Right up my alley!

Have you read the bit about why it is called the Assassin's Cloak yet? That is my favorite part!

I LOVED Stardust (and the movie too) and I loved the Julie and Julia movie -- I wasn't expecting to. My partner also enjoyed it. And so did my DAD!
